When it comes to camping, there’s always something you forget to pack. Whether you’re a seasoned camper or a newbie, having a good camping gear checklist never hurts. A complete checklist can help you stay organized and stay comfortable under the stars. The camping site you choose entirely depends on your preferences such as national parks, private campgrounds, or even your own backyard. However, there are some essential things that you are going to need wherever you go. Some things vary depending on factors like whether the campsite has basic amenities or the level of comfort you prefer. So, make sure you do your research properly and start packing early to keep every little gear you possibly need to exist outdoors. Unlike those going hiking or biking, casual car campers have more options to pack everything. Factors like your campsite facilities, car camping or backpacking, and personal preferences- all determine things to pack for the trip. But here’s a camping checklist that helps you get an idea of the essential things needed for this exciting trip. So, let’s check out an ultimate camping gear checklist!

1.      Shelter and Bedding

When spending time outdoors, you need comfortable and stable shelter. Depending on the number of people using the tent, you need a spacious tent, a lightweight tarp as an emergency shelter, extra stakes, and tent repair kits. In addition to this, keep a sleeping bag, camping pillow, blankets, air pumps, sleeping pad, axe or hammer, and more. Finding a spacious tent is important to ensure that you have extra space to store everything and also have enough elbow space. If it rains, you are going to stay longer in the tent. So, make sure to get a 3-season tent and choose a size bigger than the number of people specified. It means a 3-people or 4-people tent is best for couples. For backpacking, look for a lightweight tent or a hammock-and-tarp setup.

2.      Eating and Drinking Essentials

Depending on the number of days you’re going to stay, pack enough items to stay energized and hydrated. Mostly camping involves cooking your own meals. Most likely you’re not going to find restaurants or take-out options in the forest. So, bring a few cooking equipments such as a saucepan, stove, pot, pans, chopping board, knife, plates, bowl, cups, lighter, coffee maker, cooking ingredients, and more. Also, keep enough water to avoid drinking unfiltered water from ponds and lakes. If you’re going with kids, keep some snacks for frequent munching. Bring frozen ready-to-eat meals and snacks high in protein and sugar to keep you energized.

3.      Clothing & Other Items

Bring weather-appropriate clothing and footwear. You will need shirts, hiking shorts, rain jackets, swimsuits, socks, a hat, sleepwear, an insulated jacket, hiking boots, running shoes, and more. Make sure you have comfortable footwear and sunscreen. In addition to this, you will need a first aid kit, bug spray, headlight, flashlight, maps, and compass for navigation and directions. Your first aid kit should have bandages, antiseptic wipes, OTC medicines, tweezers, blister creams, prescription meds, and more. Also keep toiletries like toothbrush and toothpaste, hand wash, towel, hand sanitizer, floss, and more.
