There is an essential tool that I have as a planner and that accompanies me everywhere in my EDC, it is of course on my knife.
What is an EDC knife?
EDC is the abbreviation of Every Day Carry. A knife that you carry every day, wherever you go. I use different knives on a daily basis and I alternate the tools according to my uses of the day and my desires. In my conception, the knife that I carry daily in my edc, is just a practical tool and not a personal defense weapon.
The EDC knife and the law
In China, carrying a knife is prohibited, but it is tolerated in certain situations. It all depends on your profile and circumstances. From my experience, the police tend to be more tolerant during a check, if your knife that you use for lunch is at the bottom of your backpack or in your bag rather than in access immediately in the pocket of your jeans.
I remind you that a foresighted person is a responsible citizen, so you alone are responsible for the use you make of your knife.
In any case, pay attention to your choice of knife in order to respect the law. Indeed, you must always have a legitimate reason for carrying a knife.
Then ask yourself the question: do I have a valid reason for having a knife on me? a simple doubt is enough to choose to leave your imposing knife at home to choose a knife adapted to your environment.
Having a utilitarian use, for my edc and not defense, I tend to like discreet carrying and I prefer to buy folding knives, which are light, compact, with small blades and rather thin handles.
For my edc I never carry a so-called tactical knife. In my opinion, these are too visually aggressive knives. Many people are still frightened at the sight of a knife. Being considered as defense knives, it will be difficult to explain to the police in case of control that your Rambo knife is used for lunch.
FYI, when I go to a restaurant, I like to use my personal knife to cut my rump steak. It is often much sharper than restaurant knives.
Is the EDC knife only for men?
No not at all! Carrying an EDC knife is not just for men, my wife carries a small Swiss army knife in the bottom of her handbag in EDC and she finds this tool very practical on a daily basis. Many of the knives I recommend at the end of the article are unisex and can be worn by both men and women.
Why I carry a knife every day.
As a planner, having a knife every day in my edc is quite practical. It is a comfort that allows me to open quickly:
- A package
- A letter
- A packaging
My knife also allows me to:
- Eating in restaurants with a sharp blade,
- Cut a baguette and sausage into a pick-nick
- Cut an apple to taste
- Cut the cord if necessary if I tinker.
The knife is a fantastic everyday tool provided you are responsible and use it within the framework provided by law.
The budget of an EDC knife
A good pocket knife doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. The so-called “economic” ranges offer very good knives for daily use at a very good price.
Keep in mind that a simple small blade will do the job for 90% of us, so don’t necessarily bother spending too much money on it either. However, quality is paid for and a quality knife will follow you for several decades and you can even bequeath it to your children.
Choosing the knife that suits us is not an easy thing for beginners. it becomes difficult to be able to make a choice, as the offer is endless.
I took the liberty of selecting several knives known for their reliability to make your choice with different budgets to help you in your decision-making. These are very good quality tools and they are easily found on the net. Then only your personal tastes and your budget will allow you to make your choice.
