This information can then be used to register for social security schemes. The eshram portal also offers benefits to the unorganized workforce. By using this service, the eshram program will make it easier for unorganized workers to secure jobs.

As of September 2016, there were approximately 38 crore unorganized workers in the country. This group includes small sellers, wage workers, and construction workers. They do not belong to any organized labor organization and are not covered by ESIC or EPFO. The portal was designed with these workers in mind. The government aims to use the portal to help these workers access vital government services.

The insurance cover is offered free of cost and does not require a monthly payment. It is available to all workers and is completely free of cost.

Once a worker has registered under this service, he will be allocated a unique 12-digit number, also known as his UAN. The registered worker can also send Whatsapp messages from the portal, update his/her profile details, and claim the social security benefits.
