Now that it’s summer, there’s usually not much on television. While some networks have tried to change their summer programming, most of us are still looking to other forms of entertainment. Movie rentals thrive in the summer and give us a chance to see movies we missed during the school year and the academy’s winter events. Great movie theaters that give us the block-buster summer early runs we all crave and there are different, several drive-ins around the country have started to make a return. What other options do we have, though?
Outdoor movie nights in your own backyard can be a way to watch a great movie while enjoying the great outdoors. The best part is, it’s close to home. Just like driving home without wasting gas, navigating the crowds and lines becomes an attraction for movie rentals. So, how do you go about creating your own private backyard movie night? Well, you have two options to consider. Here are a few ideas to turn your backyard into your own theater to watch your favorite movie or newly released DVD. Choice/First Thought:
Just get another T.V. and take it to the backyard to a suitable place to sit or spread a blanket. Now that the summer days are longer and movie-watching skills are better as it gets darker, you should have plenty of time to set up and move one of the TVs you might having them is the first choice. If you have a small portable DVD player or an old VHS player, this should come out with the TV.
If you have a set of speakers to go with the TV that will make the experience even better. Remember, though, that not all of your neighbors may agree, so make sure that the time to listen is appropriate. Mind you, this isn’t about costing you if the THX will blow the windows out, the point of departure is to change speed and location without loading the kids into the mini-van.
Second Option/Thought:
If like most people have a computer, you can simply pass on a computer that plays DVDs. Most flat-screen monitors tend to be lightweight and easy to transport, so it’s easy to move the system to a desk or stand outside doors. A good sturdy desk or stand is probably the most important consideration in order to reduce the exposure of your costly computer system to the elements. Plus, you won’t need an expensive system that hits the dirt during a movie.
For those with a laptop, consider simply getting a laptop and monitoring the screen at your desired location in the backyard as laptops are portable and offer more flexibility. Flat screen or normal TV can work depending on your laptops monitor output. Most modern laptops offer several options for placing the screen on the TV for viewing photos and can be expanded to allow DVD player software to be viewed as well.
Third Option/Opinion:
for those lucky enough to have access to an overhead projector, this may be the ultimate option. Using a laptop or portable DVD player, connect it to the projector system on the table and prepare the projection area. The best and quickest way to get the film projected is to shoot it from the side of the house or cleverly put a large white sheet in the right place.
For the screen, this is where you can get creative. White or light space is the ideal space for any imagination. Using white cloth gives you endless options. Throw a rope between two trees and make a piece of paper or if your house is dark in color, tape or keep a white cloth beside the house. Several possibilities are available, so put on your thinking cap to find the best vantage point for your film and project from a state-of-the-art system.
These are just a few tips for you to take your movie watching to a new place and change the pace a bit. The outdoor area is ideal for providing a variety of viewing opportunities. Blankets and hay are popular, if you have outdoor furniture and lounge chambers, everyone raves about that. Even skipping out can be a great place to sit and enjoy a movie. Comfort is the key.
