Irrespective of the season, you must spare the effort to keep your bedroom in a good shape to ensure optimum sleep quality and health. One third of our lifetime is spent in sleeping and so, our bed room space is something that deserves our extra attention and a sincere effort to keep it clean and tidy. If you are unsure as to where you can start, here is a set of cleaning tips to see that your decorative throw blankets are kept in a neat shape free of any allergens, bugs and other harmful dirt and dust. Implement the following mattress cleaning tips in a rotational fashion.

Vacuum the mattress top
If your mattress has any protective cover, remove it first and then use a brush attached vacuum cleaner to clean the mattress top. Ensure you get into the grooves of the quilt. It will be a surprising thing to note how much of late night snacks particles, hair, dust and dirt has accumulated into this space.

Remove the stains on the surface
There are both chemical and natural processes to remove the stains from the surface of your mattress. Prepare a mixture of liquid dish soap, baking soda and hydrogen peroxide and collect it in a spray bottle. Spray this mixture on the stains and dry with a clean rag.

Make a paste of lemon juice and salt and apply the same over the stained areas. Leave it standing there for an hour and then wipe it down with a clean rag. If you need to break down the stains chemically, you can use a non-toxic fabric cleaner in order to get rid of the odors and stains. If you use a mattress protector, you can prevent any stains on your mattress.

Get rid of the odor from the mattress
The sprays meant for eliminating the odor sometimes do not do the job adequately in clearing your mattress odor. Over a period of usage, the oil from your hair and skin can seep deep into the pillows and mattresses which accounts for its bad odor. For fighting tough odors, you can sprinkle baking soda and leave it sitting there for a few hours. This can also be useful to absorb the excess of liquid used for the stain removal process and also the oil, sweat and other liquids that had got soaked into the mattress. After a few hours have passed, you can vacuum up the baking soda making sure that you remove off all the excess powder from the crevices.

Flip the mattress
If you have used the mattress for a while and sleep on the same side of the bed every night, possibly the bedding might wear down unevenly. This can lead to a troubled sleep and can even cause neck or back pain. An easy way to freshen up the mattress is to flip it so that you will feel as if it is a brand new one.
