In life, it can often feel like there is so much to think about. This is especially true if you have other commitments like kids or family members that rely on you. Starting your own business is no exception to this, and the stress of it alone puts many off from pursing it.

It’s a great option for the right person but how do you know if this is you? Here are just a few questions you can ask yourself to help you find out…

Can I afford it?

This is a major consideration to take into account, when starting your own business. Though you may be thinking that you’re going into this to make money, it’s important to remember that it can cost a lot in the initial stages.

Whether it’s renting/buying a place to work from, or investing in the products and materials you need to get started – saving a little beforehand, can really make a difference in those first few months.

Can I leave my current job?

Due to the costs of starting a new business, many people stay in their current jobs for a little longer. This can make the transition from employee to business owner, much smoother, and saves a lot of the financial hardship some might have.

Having said that, if you don’t leave your current job right away, you have to consider the time element of your set-up. Starting a new business can take up a lot of hours and it may be too much for you to handle, if you’re working full-time on top of this.

Is this what I really want?

This is by far, one of the most important questions to ask yourself. You don’t want to be saddled with the consequences of starting your own business, before you figure out, it’s not for you.

A lot of people like the idea of starting up a new business just because they aren’t happy in their current jobs. This is understandable – the idea of being your own boss and setting your own hours is great. The reality of it though, is much more stressful and only worth it if you truly want it.

Am I prepared?

There is so much to prepare for, besides the financial aspect, when it comes to starting your own business.

For example, if you are selling a product, do you have the equipment necessary? Contacting companies like Fluent Conveyors, could be the solution to your requirements.

If the business you’re setting up, is to provide a service, do you have the right apparatus for this? There is so much to consider when preparing for this big life change, and asking yourself if you are fully prepared for it, is vital.

After answering all of these questions, if you have realised that you are ready for this new challenge, then there’s no reason to wait! Go ahead and build your new business – it can be a very rewarding and exciting new chapter in your life.
